Megan Frohlich and Jeremy Puentes
The couple met on a cruise to Bermuda six years prior, which inspired their wedding theme. Megan knew right away she wanted a casual, vintage, nautical celebration, and South Florida couldn’t have been more accommodating. “We’re by the water, and everything down here is already beach-themed,” she explains. After researching nautical color palettes, the couple agreed on navy and red.
“One of the biggest things that pulled our wedding together was the red Dockers,” Megan says. “I saw them and thought, ‘How cool would it be if our groomsmen wore these?’ And everyone hated the idea.” The groomsmen complained but Megan prevailed. “Between the nautical theme, the guys’ outfits and the two colors, we built the whole wedding,” she says.
On June 8, 2012, Megan and Jeremy wed at St. Patrick Church in Miami Beach. The vibrant architecture of the church was so stunning that they chose not to have any decor. “To be honest, the place was so beautiful without it,” Megan says. “It was just us and the church.” The intimate Catholic ceremony, built around their relationship with priest Wilfredo Contreras, was important to the bride and groom. “We wanted everyone to see that side of us, and we really wanted someone special to join us in marriage,” Megan says. It became her most cherished memory of the day.
After the ceremony, guests were welcomed to a charming maritime reception at the Ronald W. Shane Center. In addition to being conveniently close to the church, the waterfront location had an extra nautical bonus: The bottom floor of the building housed a rowing center. Upstairs, navy, red and white decor transformed the venue into a romantic scene overlooking the picturesque Indian Creek Waterway.
