Sarah Spear and Ben Sands
“We used a five-star motto rooted in how we wanted people to get the most out of each day, expand their comfort zone and be around people they love—so the weekend had a variety of activities and events for guests to create their own five-star experience,” Sarah says.
How the bride and groom met: At a black-tie fundraiser for the Washington Ballet. The event was held at the Russian Embassy in Washington, DC. According to the groom, upon seeing his future bride in a flowing green Christian Dior gown, he was “smitten” at first sight. The love blossomed over a courtship that lasted approximately 18 months – and packed with hiking, tennis, skiing, kayaking and other adventures.
The bride’s chosen drink is bourbon, so an extra “bourbon bar” was set up with premium selections of the spirit and cocktails, such as Manhattans and mint juleps.
The couple’s favorite part of their wedding day: “[We have] so many favorites, but if we had to pick just one it would have to be the dancing! Our wedding took place over Halloween weekend, so we wanted to incorporate some fun costumes into the festivities. We, along with our entire wedding party, hit the dance floor wearing wigs, sunglasses, glow sticks… and our guests quickly followed suit. We brought accessories for everyone! Once we started dancing, the floor was packed until the very last song. We couldn’t have asked for anything better.”
