Sophia Zamora and Julio Santa

Sophia Zamora and Julio Santa’s sophisticated white and gold wedding was celebrated in true Miami fashion.

Their ceremony and reception, hosted at Rusty Pelican, had breathtaking views of the city skyline, and the night ended with one our favorite trends: La Hora Loca.

How the bride and groom met: “I had just moved from Bogota to Miami after the earthquake in Haiti when I went for a business trip to Bogota,” says Sophia. “Two mutual friends who have been wanting to introduce us for the longest time invited us to dinner. A month later we started chatting on the phone. I went back to Bogota for another business trip, and we’ve been inseparable ever since. We spent a year flying back and forth between Miami and Bogota until we finally decided to move back to Haiti, my home country.”

Sophia and Julio chose The Rusty Pelican as their venue because they wanted spectacular views of the water and the Miami skyline. “The restaurant happened to be right across from our Brickell apartment, and we were engaged on a small boat Julio chartered in the bay,” says Sophia.

The most emotional part of the day for the couple was the reception speeches. “My father, the best man, the maid of honor, my brothers and Julio’s sister all spoke during the sit down dinner,” says Sophia. “We laughed, we cried.”
