It takes a strong bond to withstand a long-distance relationship. And no one knows that better than Astrid Alves and Andy Gilon.
The couple met through mutual friends in Caracas, Venezuela, Astrid’s hometown. Andy, who works in finance, had been living in Geneva, Switzerland and traveled to Caracas for work. They were dating for about a year when Astrid was accepted to a master’s degree program in the States and moved to Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Their love already sealed, they decided to make it work—4,000 miles apart.
“We knew it was just a phase,” Astrid says. “It was only three years, and what’s three years compared to the rest of your life?”
