There are countless ways to enjoy the outdoors

Paws Up covers an astonishing 37,000 acres of pristine ranch land in Greenough, in the mountainous western part of Montana. You can take ATV rides through forests and alongside the Blackfoot River; try your hand at rappelling down a rocky cliff face; go whitewater rafting, fly fishing, hiking, or clay shooting; take a romantic hot-air-balloon ride; and even go on a real cattle drive with a cowboy or cowgirl who works on the ranch. In April, Paws Up unveiled its brand new Skyline aerial ropes course, where you can put your balance—and your comfort with heights—to the test.

You can camp with all the creature comforts

Upon its opening in 2005, Paws Up introduced American travelers to the concept of “glamping”—that is, glamorous camping in tents outfitted with creature comforts such as fully functional bathrooms, electricity, air-conditioning, and even butler service. Each of Paws Up’s five wilderness camps comprises six spacious tents and a communal dining pavilion (think safari style), where guests gather for meals and even live musical entertainment by the campfire. Here’s a helpful hint: Pinnacle Camp and Cliffside Camp each have designated honeymoon tents, which feature deep soaking tubs for two, as well as spectacular views. If you book Tango Point at Pinnacle Camp, you can enjoy a romantic dinner for two on the banks of the Blackfoot River. Whichever tent you choose, camp butlers will see to it that the two of you are ushered between your activities and that your every whim is catered to while camping. (If even a plush tent like those at Paws Up is still a little too primitive for you, you can check in to a luxe timber home or Wildnerness Estate, complete with your own wood deck, grill, and Jacuzzi.)

Its mobile app is like having your own personal assistant

Even tech-savvy guests will feel at home here, as Paws Up has its own efficient app, through which you’ll communicate with resort staff to arrange everything from housekeeping to spa appointments to rides between your activity locations. Forget your toothpaste? Just use the app to request a fresh tube. Running late for dinner or your massage? Type a few quick texts to have the front desk staff assist you. Want some bubbly to enjoy along with your majestic mountain views? Just ask. The app is especially handy considering how large the resort is—so a trip or a call to the reception isn’t required every time you find yourself in need of service.

Spa treatments come with a side of mountain views

Dubbed “Spa Town,” Paws Up’s spa comprises a dozen white canvas treatment tents, arranged in a crescent shape in the shade of a grove of pines and connected by a wooden boardwalk, all overlooking the resort’s mountainous, grassy acres. While on your massage tables, you’ll gaze out together at the grass and the snow-capped mountains beyond through a tied-back opening in your tent, and then lounge in a sitting area to let the ranch’s peacefulness and tranquility truly take hold.

You’ll return home feeling enriched

In addition to its outdoor options, Paws Up offers a number of fun, hands-on educational opportunities, from cooking competitions and writing workshops to photography and painting classes. The resort also plays host to various food events throughout the year, most popular among them the Montana Master Grillers event in late May, which brings top barbecue chefs from around the country, along with bands and beverage purveyors.
