When Jordan Urtso first met Ryan Nettleship at a fraternity house at Arizona University, neither were aware of the role Cupid was about to play.
“I started blushing and he was smiling, and we sort of forgot about our friends and talked to each other for the rest of the night,” Jordan says. “Both being from Texas, we never ran out of things to talk about. And we still haven’t.”
Four years later, Ryan proposed to Jordan the day after his birthday. Jordan had planned a special celebration for him and Ryan suggested they take some pictures outside.
“We were snapping photos right in front of the coy pond, when all of a sudden Ryan went down on one knee,” she says. “I’m thinking: ‘This is an interesting pose. Does he want me to sit on his knee? What’s going on?”
That’s when he took her left hand and slipped a pearl ring on her finger. Ryan gave her the ring as a placeholder for the diamond engagement ring he wanted them to design together.
On April 18th, the couple exchanged vows at the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens in Miami. Rather than keep to a specific color scheme, Jordan wanted her wedding to imbue a Victorian era theme, and layered in soft gold and silver metallic pieces and decorative antiques.
One of Jordan’s cherished wedding memories came enclosed in a small box she received before the ceremony. Ryan’s best man delivered the gift along with a handwritten note and a password to an email address with her new married name.
After the reception, the couple headed to their suite at Miami’s Mandarin Oriental. “While Ryan was ordering us room service, I opened the account and found all the emails Ryan had written for the last year-and-a-half,” she says. “We had an early morning flight to Anguilla, but Ryan and I stayed up until 4:45 a.m. eating cake and pizza, drinking champagne, watching movies, and reading his sweet email messages. Just being alone together for the first time as husband and wife, was my favorite part of the night.”
