Lea Campbell and Spencer Barnes

Drummer Lea Campbell befriended Spencer Barnes when he was roped into singing for her band, WD-Han. On one fateful ride home from practice, Spencer stumbled over his words when he asked Lea if she wanted to be more than band mates. “We knew within the first week [of dating] that we were the ones for each other,” Lea remembers.

After four years together, Spencer proposed to Lea on Christmas day, and the two began planning a simple, vintage wedding. Lea gave her bridesmaids color and silhouette guidelines to ensure they would be cohesive, stylish and comfortable. “Each person looked incredible in her dress because she had ownership of her look,” she says.

Her own dress was more of a challenge. Lea spent months searching for the perfect combination of vintage and bohemian to no avail. Thankfully, Spencer surprised her with a trip to Boston for her and her mother to find the dress of her dreams. She fell in love with a floor-length Claire Pettibone gown tiered in assorted lace trim and accented with delicate eyelets and sheer cap sleeves.

“This dress was me. And, of course, it made my mom cry,” Lea says.

Ever the free-spirited bride, Lea wanted to celebrate in an open and inviting space. Cross Creek Ranch in Dover offered everything she had envisioned, including a giant oak tree for the couple to exchange vows under. Yet the day of the wedding, rain forced the ceremony into Cross Creek Ranch’s stable, where chandeliers and a neatly mulched floor imparted a warm, rustic ambiance. On March 22, 2013, as Lea walked down the aisle under the twinkling lights of the open-air stable to a string rendition of Incubus’ “I Miss You,” neither bride nor groom could hold back tears…
