India’s Tiger Trail
Headlined by the majestic and elusive Bengal tiger, safaris in the heart of India’s central plains cater to a growing paradigm in wildlife wanderlust. The state of Madhya Pradesh hosts three national parks and reserves that are prime tiger habitat—Bandhavgarh, Kanha and Pench. In association with TAJ Safaris, &Beyond India has established high-end lodges and exclusive tented camps on the peripheries of these parks, marrying intrepid adventure with high style.
For most luxury travelers, the tiger quest begins and ends at Baghvan, near Pench National Park. Accommodations at Baghvan take shape as individual jungle houses, featuring rooftop bales, outdoor showers with gardens and impressive local antique furnishings. However, avid wildlife enthusiasts should also head to deeper terrain to Kanha National Park for even more intense tiger experiences.
Perched over the riverbanks near Kanha, &Beyond’s Banjaar Tola camp is an enclave of “big-top” style tented mega suites in the thick of a bustling forest where The Jungle Book comes to life. The land teems with curious monkeys, boisterous warthogs, peacocks in full bloom, elusive leopards and, of course, magnificent tigers.
Returning to the comforts of Banjaar Tola each night provides a fairytale ending to an epic day of wildlife viewing. Come nightfall, the head chef prepares a feast of traditional Indian dishes, representative of vastly different states and regions. Wait staff stands ready for drink orders in the common dining areas and the exquisite poolside, happy also to pour your favorite wines in the comfort of your personal “big top.”
