Although it’s a huge honor, being a bridesmaid can also come with a huge price tag. You’ll likely need to buy a new dress, possibly even a pair of shoes, and then there’s the bachelorette party, the bridal shower, the gifts, and the hair, makeup, and mani/pedi. And, if it’s a destination wedding, throw in some travel expenses, possibly for more than one visit to the wedding location. It can add up!

And while we know you’re happy to oblige the bride-to-be (after all, she’d do the same for you, and probably will), in case you’re curious just how much real-life bridesmaids can spend on their best friends’ weddings, we’re sharing the account of one New Yorker who recently broke down for Refinery29 what she spent as a bridesmaid in her friend’s destination wedding here in Florida. The total?  It might surprise you.

Head over to Refinery29 to see the full, itemized list of her four-figure expenses.
