This week’s question: “I’ve been invited to so many wedding events. Do I need to bring gifts to all of them?”

Let’s break it down:

  • Engagement party: Although growing in popularity, engagement gifts are not required.
  • Bridal shower: If you are attending, bring a gift according to the theme. If not, you are welcome to send one but are not obligated. If there is more than one shower, you only need a gift for the first one.
  • Bachelor/bachelorette party: Optional, but if gifts are given, they are usually funny and inexpensive.
  • Ceremony/reception: If you’re invited to a wedding ceremony, send or bring a gift. If you’re invited to only the reception, you aren’t required to gift but may wish to do so. For a destination wedding, consider shipping gifts to the bride and groom so that they won’t have to worry about shipping.

Other wedding week events (rehearsal dinner, day-after brunch, etc.) are not gift-giving events.
